Our town is rich in history and it has a lot to offer!
The location alone is fantastic! Only 45 minutes via motorway A95 from Munich, it is located directly at the foot of the Zugspitze, Germany´s highest peak at 2962m (9717.84 feet). You are in Austria/Ehrwald in only 20 minutes, in Innsbruck in approximately 1 hour and in Bozen South Tirolia/Italy in approximately 1 1/2 hours. It is the perfect base for living and traveling in Europe. Living in nature - but close to culture.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen - offers its guests and inhabitants many cultural possibilities. Plays at the „Kultursommer“, the music of the Richard-Strauß-days, Jazz in Elmau and the world famous New Year´s Day Ski jumping.
Many of King Ludwig II’s fairytale castles are close enough for a day trip, and the „Schachenschloß“, a marvelous wooden castle in the midst of our mountains, with a Moroccan stained glass tearoom (which can be reached only on foot) is well worth a visit. Nearby is also the historical farmhouse museum called Glentleiten and the Swarowski Crystal Museum close to Innsbruck.
In our beautiful Olympic town tradition mingles with modern flair. If you enjoy seeing our traditional costume, shopping in a boutique, going to the cinema, the casino, the little theatre, the swimming pool or the Olympic ice stadium - here you find both the expected and the unexpected!
Nature lovers and sport fans especially are smitten with the area. Be it skiing, sledding, cross country skiing or
hiking, biking and swimming in summer in the numerous clear freshwater lakes - living here is pristine, next to
nature and still pleasantly convenient.
